SUMMARY:QEP Writing with Pride Spoken Word Competition
DESCRIPTION:Official Rules for FMU’s QEP Spoken Word Contest\nFMU is having a “WRITING WITH PRIDE” Spoken Word contest on Thursday\, February 27\, 2025\, from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. in the Nathan W. Collier Library. To participate\, please enter your poem before 11:59 p.m. on Monday\, February 24\, 2025\, and you can win a  $300-$800 prize per school. \nHow the contest works:\nFMU requests that students submit a spoken word presentation on any topic of choice. If you are a student currently enrolled and can present a spoken word piece\, submit a video of the poem being rehearsed to QEP@fmuniv.edu NO LATER THAN Monday\, February 24\, 2025\, at 11:59 p.m. \nHow to enter:\nTo be eligible to win\, contestants must submit their poems to QEP@fmuniv.edu by Monday\, February 24\, 2025\, at 11:59 p.m. \nCompetition:\nThe competition will occur on Thursday\, February 27\, 2025\, from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. in the Nathan W. Collier Library. Students must perform their spoken word submission to QEP Committee judges and guests. Students must present their original poems and will be judged according to their presentation. (Music can be incorporated into the performance and must be submitted before the day of the competition.) \nWhat to submit:\nTo be eligible for performing in the competition\, the poem may not refer to any of the following: weapons/guns; offensive language and/or gestures; drugs or drug paraphernalia; mutilations; depictions offensive to ethnic\, minority\, or religious groups; child abuse; violence; animal cruelty; bodily functions; venereal diseases; physical handicaps; cadavers; rape or molestations; lavatory or lavatory jokes; nudity; threats to national security; defamation of character; any illegal\, indecent\, or obscene activity. FMU’s QEP Committee will be the final judge for all content. Anything deemed indecent as judged by community standards will be disqualified. \nLegal Stuff: \n\nFMU reserves the right to use any entries as it deems fit.\nThe QEP Selection Committee reserves the right to select the winning poems at its discretion. The decision of FMU’s QEP Committee is final and not subject to review or appeal.\nWinners may accept only the prizes stated in the contest rules. No other substitutions are allowed. Failure to comply with this provision will result in forfeiture of the grand prize by the winner. The grand prize winner must agree to all terms and meet all requirements stated in these rules or forfeit the grand prize.\nFMU reserves the right to disqualify any entrant if these contest rules have been violated in any way.\nBy entering\, the winning entrant agrees that his/her name and photograph may be used by FMU for promotional purposes without further remuneration (unless the winning entrant chooses to remain anonymous).\n\n\nQEP – Writing with Pride\nThe Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) is an important component of our accreditation process\, as required by SACSCOC. The University must develop and implement a QEP every ten (10) years\, and our current QEP is titled “Writing with Pride.” \nThe QEP “Writing with Pride” is Florida Memorial University’s commitment to enhancing instruction and experiences to improve student learning and academic success.  Academic Quality and Student Success are two key principles of our “Ascension to Excellence” Strategic Plan – “Create a student-centric environment where everyone is responsible for student success\, and students have rich learning and transformative experiences.” \nFlorida Memorial University’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP)\, Writing with Pride\, focuses on improving writing skills\, establishing a writing culture\, and improving student success. \nFMU Writing with Pride has three coordinated phases: \n\nIntroductory Stage:College Writing I and II\, and 100-level courses in the General Education Program focus on teaching and developing writing skills.\nReinforcing Stage:Writing competencies reinforced in specific undergraduate courses within major areas of study.\n\nThe goal is to help students improve their written communication skills during the early stages of matriculation\, which will enhance writing competencies in upper-level courses\, graduate school\, and career/workplace. \nFor more information: \n\nYou can contact the QEP Coordinator at qep@fmuniv.edu\nOffice of Institutional Effectiveness\nDr. Idriss Abdoulaye\, Interim Director/Coordinator of QEP
