Dr. Vena Symonette-Johnson returned to her alma mater in Fall 2025, assuming the role of Dean of the School of Business and Aeronautical Sciences in January 2026. A proud Florida Memorial University alumna, she graduated with honors with a B.S. in Aeronautical Science before earning a double Master’s in Aerospace/Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and a Doctorate in International Business Administration from Atlantic International University.
With a distinguished 37-year career in aviation beginning in 1989, Dr. Symonette-Johnson rose from customer service to senior management. A commercial pilot and Certified Flight Instructor, she has dedicated her life to the industry and her students, previously assisting Capt. Barrington Irving with his historic world flight. Beyond her leadership at FMU, she is a Realtor, a devoted children’s ministry servant, and an active leader in organizations like OBAP and the Greater Miami Aviation Association.
