Biography

Aretha Y. Hill, Ph.D., CPA, CCRP is an Associate Professor of Accounting and a respected educator, business leader, and accounting professional with more than 30 years of experience in higher education, corporate practice, and professional development. She is the Founder and CEO of AmPowering Careers and Solutions, LLC, a career and curriculum consulting firm focused on student success, workforce readiness, and academic innovation, and AYHill CPA, LLC, which provides financial consulting and accounting services.

Dr. Hill previous academic appointments include Associate Professor of Accounting, Associate Dean, and MBA Director at Alabama A&M University; Chair of the Department of Business Administration and Economics at Fort Valley State University; and faculty roles at Florida A&M University and North Carolina A&T State University. In these roles, she has led initiatives in curriculum redesign, CPA evolution alignment, accreditation, and student career awareness, leadership and professional development.

Before transitioning to academia, Dr. Hill held professional roles at top international firms including PwC, KPMG, Ernst & Young, and Federated Department Stores (Macy’s). Her industry experience informs her teaching and advising, allowing her to bridge classroom instruction with real-world application.

Dr. Hill earned a Ph.D. in Accounting from Texas A&M University, a Master of Accountancy from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and a B.B.A. in Accounting from Fort Valley State University.

She is a former National Accreditation Commissioner for the AICPA, and has served on the AICPA Academic Executive Committee, the Critical Thinking Task Force, and multiple academic and professional advisory boards. She is also the Treasurer of the Fort Valley State University National Alumni Association, Inc., and a life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and the Fort Valley State University National Alumni Association, Inc.

A published researcher and frequent presenter, Dr. Hill has delivered presentations and workshops on topics including change management, curriculum innovation, financial planning, active learning strategies, and career development. Her passion lies in assurance of learning, curriculum transformation, and empowering underrepresented students to pursue careers in accounting and business.

Deeply committed to service, Dr. Hill actively contributes to community organizations, alumni engagement, and mentoring future leaders in academia and the profession.
