Growing in Faith. Developing Leaders. Serving with Purpose.
At Florida Memorial University, we believe that leadership begins with discipleship. Before we serve others, we must first allow God to shape us, strengthen us, and prepare us for the work He has called us to do. Serving is more than taking on a responsibility, it is an opportunity to grow in faith, discover your gifts, develop your leadership, and make a lasting impact in the lives of others.
Students who desire to serve through chapel, ministry opportunities, outreach experiences, and campus faith initiatives are invited to participate in Called to Serve: A Discipleship Journey. This intentional experience is designed to equip students with the spiritual foundation, character, and practical tools needed to serve with excellence and lead with a heart centered on Christ.
Students will commit to a weekly discipleship gathering held Fridays at 1:00 PM via Zoom. Through biblical teaching, meaningful conversations, prayer, reflection, and community building, students will grow deeper in their faith while preparing to serve others with confidence and purpose.
Throughout this journey, students will walk through four transformative stages:
1. Know — Discovering Your Foundation in Christ
Every meaningful journey begins with knowing who you are and whose you are. In this first stage, students will explore the foundations of faith, including identity in Christ, prayer, Scripture, spiritual practices, and what it means to follow Jesus. Students will develop a deeper understanding of God and discover how their relationship with Him shapes their purpose.
2. Become — Developing Christ-Centered Character
Leadership is not just about what we do—it is about who we are becoming. This stage focuses on spiritual growth, integrity, humility, compassion, accountability, and the qualities that shape a leader who reflects Christ. Students will be challenged to grow from the inside out and become people who lead with authenticity.
3. Reflect — Representing Christ Through Your Life
Those who serve become representatives of something greater than themselves. This stage helps students understand the importance of their actions, attitudes, communication, and choices. Students will learn how to lead with excellence, demonstrate responsibility, and reflect the love and character of Christ in every environment.
4. Serve — Living Out Your Purpose Through Impact
Discipleship always moves us toward action. In this final stage, students will discover how their unique gifts, passions, and experiences can be used to serve others and make a difference. Students will be equipped to lead, encourage, and bring hope to the FMU community and beyond.
Called to Serve is more than preparation for a role, it is an invitation into transformation. Through this journey, students will build meaningful relationships, deepen their faith, discover their gifts, and become equipped to serve as leaders who bring hope, excellence, and positive change wherever they go.
If you are ready to grow, serve, and make an impact, we invite you to begin the journey.
Come ready to know. Come ready to become. Come ready to reflect. Come ready to serve.
